Overcoming temptations is one of the key weapons you need to have in your arsenal if you are ever going to overpower masturbation and pornography addiction.
Early this morning, I went through the book of Matthew 3 and 4 for the umpteenth time this week. It starts with how John the Baptist’s ministry going viral and how Jesus Himself came down to be baptized by John. As soon as Jesus got baptized by John, the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus like a dove. We’re all familiar with the story (I hope we are….)
The key point I want to point out is found at the end of Matthew 3, specifically verse 17,
With the voice from heaven telling Jesus such a powerful statement, is it not surprising that when Jesus was led to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil in the very next chapter, the first words that the devil said were, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (Matthew 4:3)?
The underlined words showcase the key to overcoming temptations!
It was only matter of days, at most, that God had spoken from heaven about how Jesus was His Son, and how pleased he was with Jesus.
Yet, the first thing that the devil tried to use to trip Jesus off was to ask Jesus to proof His Sonship!
That is simply amazing!
Overcoming Temptations Come Down To Understanding Strategy
The key strategy that the devil uses to try to trip you off is really simple.
All he wants to do is to try to get you to doubt God’s Word concerning your life. If you can understand this, you are well on the way to overcoming temptations, particularly those arising from masturbation and pornography.
Time and time again, we tend to put ourselves in compromising situations because we do not understand how God sees us or what He calls us. Later, we claim that victory over porn addiction and masturbation is all down to luck. No, it’s not!!! It is totally impossible to overcome temptations if you are clueless about your identity in the sight of God.
Jesus knew who he was. And God confirmed it again with an audible voice in the presence of everybody. So, when faced with the temptation from the devil, it was easy for Jesus to place more value on what God said, than on what the devil was asking Him to proof.
The Word Makes Overcoming Temptations Easy
I remember the other day when God spoke these words into my heart,
If you ask Me for something and you do not have the confidence that you have received it, you never did accept it from Me in the first place
I see the same thing playing out with Jesus. God had already spoken His Mind about Jesus Christ. Jesus was confident about this Word. He deeply believed it, and as a result He was totally unmovable from His base on God’s Word about Him. Jesus did not need to prove anything to reaffirm God’s Word about His Sonship. And as a result, Jesus was always going to be in a situation of overcoming temptations.
Many times, we give the devil way too much credit than he is due.
We think he is powerful and able to get us to fall at every single attempt he makes against us.
If only we knew that searching God’s Words and finding what He thinks and says about us was the key strategy to overcoming temptations, we would not succumb to temptations of masturbation, pornography or any destructive habits as frequently as we do!
Has this word blessed you today?
Do you feel more confident of the ability God has given you to overcome temptations that may come across your path?
Get into the Word and find out what God is saying about you per time.
God bless you richly.
